OOTD - What's old is new

I am always looking for new ways to wear old things. For one thing it's so much easier on my wallet and since this year I'm trying to be more fiscally responsible I'm sure I'll be shopping my closet that much more often. Enter this Target find. I bought this for less than $20 at the tail end of the Alice Temperley flash sale. It has covered buttons down the front 3/4 placket and covered buttons on the cuff of the sleeve. In true Alice Temperley style it has a nod to the days of classic femininity and sophistication. Only one issue - its really really really short. Because of that I've only worn it once to a friend's birthday party. Since then it's been hanging lonely in my closet. While leafing through a magazine I saw an inspiration style (note to self take a picture next time!) that showed a dress worn as a top - it looked so sophisticated so I tried my own version and I love the outcome.
The pants are J.Crew mini and add a pop of color that and they are insanely comfortable. I bought this necklace on sale two years ago from Banana Republic and the shoes are Steven by Steve Madden from Nordstrom.  My watch and ring are my go to jewelry for the most part - the watch is Michael Kors and the ring is a fantastic find from TJ Maxx. I recieved so many compliments on this outfit - I'm going to have to shop my closet much more often!

SAG Awards 2012

I love award season! And since I missed blogging at the Golden Globes I have to double down for the SAG awards. Plus, what better way to wind down the weekend than with a little red carpet. I've got my laptop ready to go, my comfy late sunday clothes on, and a cup of coffee (with yummy hazelnut creamer), so without further adieu here are my favorites of the night.

(Looking at my pics I'm apparently obsessed with cutouts, white/cream/ivory, and jewel tones).

Kelly Obsourne in Badgley Mischka
I just loved the shoulder detail on this dress, and the corset/belt/tassel at the waist is to die for. So classic yet so trendy. Only as Kelly could do!

Diane Lane in David Meister

Rose Byrne in Elie Saab
Just one word - jumpsuit! I. am. in. LOVE!

Ahna O'Reilly
She is bringing sexy back with this back out dress - flawless. Plus did you see that slit! Sexy sexy sex-y! I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of the front, but I guess when you have all that going on in the back you don't want to pile on extra in front.

Viola Davis in Marchesa
Something about creams and ivorys against dark skin is just etherial.

Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga
Love love love love love the dress. Hate hate hate hate hate the choker.

Melissa McCarthy in Badgley Mischka

Emily Blunt in Oscar de la Renta
Such a refreshing color, and it pops against her dark features.

Amber Heard in Zac Posen
Cut. It. Out. Ahh, I use to love that show. And it applies perfectly to Amber's dress.

They make it look so easy

Hey ladies! I have some OOTD coming to ya soon - I'm just finishing editing the pics so be patient with me. On the other hand it is near impossible for me to take pictures in my new place. Well maybe that's an exaderation. But still, I have yet to figure out the best room, lighting, etc for my OOTD pics. Plus I don't own a tripod so I'm constantly resting my camera on a shelf, window sill bookcase, or even worse using a mirror and just holding my camera myself. But hopefully all this will be resolved soon. One of my goals for 2012 is to get into photography. I've always had and interest but I really want to take some classes this year and develop my eye. So with my tax return I'm going to get a new camera. I'm thinking the Canon Rebel Eos t3i (or the t4i if it comes out soon). I'm going to get a tripod as well - then we'll be in business. The thing I'm most excited about with this camera (well there are more than one but we'll just start with this) the flip out LCD screen. So I'll be able to see the shot before I push the button. No more taking a picture. Running back to the camera. Looking at the picture. Realizing it's blurry and it didn't even catch your shoes. Reseting the timer and running back to your pose to do it all again.

So how do you take your OOTD pictures? Do you have someone take the for you or do you take them on your own? What about your camera - what type do you use?

Old Man Winter vs. Fab Heels

I live in New England - Boston to be exact and I love everything about this region. We have all four seasons, which allows me the greatest breadth of fashion from rompers and sandals to jeans and Sorels. But (isn't there always a but) there is only so much winter a girl can take before she craves the warm weather again! Since Old Man Winter and I aren't exactly the best of friends I jetted off to Ft Lauderdale last weekend to see some friends! A little sun, a little beach, and a whole lotta fun - score one for Fab Heels.

Skirt - Nordstrom
Sandals - Sam Edleman
Cardigan - Trouve (Nordstrom)
Bag - Kate Spade
Belt - Gap
I love this skirt - I bought it on super clearance at Nordstrom.com. It's a high-low pleated poly-woven that looks as good with heels as it does with flats. Plus the fact that it has a billion colors in it makes it so versatile with any solid colored top. This particular skirt is no longer for sale but Nordstrom and Anthropoligie have similar skirts for this spring.
I topped my statement skirt with a bright coral roll sleeve cardigan that I belted with an old favorite. Paired with sandals it was a great outfit for brunch on the beach. Now if I can only get this weather to move up the Atlantic seaboard a little quicker I would be a happy shopper. This being typed as I look outside to the first major snowfall all season. A girl can dream can't she.

Finally!

J.Crew is finally at 40% off all sale items online and in stores. This means that it's all final sale - no returns no exchanges - so shop carefully and try on if possible. The online code is OURTREAT. Me, myself, I am looking for a new winter coat (although with this winter thus far I've barely used the one I have). Hmm - perhaps I'll have to rethink that one.

Happy shopping!

If it comes back to you

There's nothing like am evening with friends - beautiful night, great outfit, red cup in hand :o)  We're headed out to take the water taxi to dinner and maybe a few bars. I had to break out my new TJ Maxx find - My Sam Edelman shoes are my new best friend. I had actually bought a similar pair from the Nordstrom Rack 5 months ago - they were slingback and I felt that they were too delicate for my large foot so back to the store they went and I never had a second though about them. That is until I was shopping at my local TJs for Christmas presents and came across these. One, TJs never, and I mean never, has my size. As you know I wear a size 12, so they either don't have a selection, or the shoes they do have are made for an 80 year old woman with foot problems. No offense to 80 year old women with orthopedic issues, but that's just not me. So I had to try these on when I saw them - 3 women told me to buy them! Who am I to say no! That being said wearing these makes me about 6'2", lol. But hey, a girl likes to be noticed!

You know how you feel when you've been away for so long... or how you feel when you haven't spoken to a good friend in ages... you come back and just pick up where you left off. It's like an unspoken phenomenon - yes time has passed, but fundamentally nothing has changed. I've missed blogging so much and recently so many people have been asking me, in one way or another, why I stopped and when I would start again. It's like the universe is calling me back to my two loves - fashion and writing. So back I come and it's really like coming back to an old friend.

So what has happened since we last spoke? Well I bough my first house (I feel so grown up!), changed jobs twice (within the same company) did a little (ok a lot) of traveling, and so much more! I'll share more in subsequent posts - I just wanted to keep this brief and say "Hello old friend - I'm glad to be back."
